WHAT ARE COOKIES?
Cookies are small text files sent from the sites visited to the user's computer (usually to the browser), which gather information on the user’s browsing experience. Cookies can be stored permanently on the device and be operational for a variable period of time (so-called persistent cookies), can be canceled when the browser is closed or have a limited duration (session cookies). It is also possible to make a further distinction: cookies can be installed by the site you are visiting (so-called first-party cookies) or by other websites and used for the purposes and according to the methods defined by them (so-called third-party cookies).
TYPES OF COOKIES
There are several types of cookies:
Technical cookies are only used for "carrying out the transmission of a communication on an electronic communications network, or insofar as this is strictly necessary to the provider of an information society service that has been explicitly requested by the contracting party or user to provide the said service" (see article 122, comma 1, Legislative Decree 196/2003).
They are not used for any other purposes and are normally installed directly by the owner or operator of the website. They can be divided into:
- browsing or session cookies, which guarantee the normal use of the website (allowing one, for example, to make a purchase or authenticate the user to access restricted areas). They are necessary for the proper functioning of the site;
- analytical cookies, similar to the technical cookies when used directly by the site operator to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and how they use the site, in order to improve site performance;
- functionality cookies, which allow the user to browse according to a series of selected criteria (for example, the language, the products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service provided.
Prior consent by users is not required to install these cookies, while there is an obligation to provide information pursuant to article 13 of the Regulation. For more details, please refer to the following sections, "Cookies present on the Site" and "How to manage cookies".
Profiling cookies are designed to create profiles related to the user in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the same while browsing the net. The profiling of the user through this type of cookie requires the consent of the data subject.
The statistical analysis cookies collect information on the use of the Site in order to improve its functioning.
The Site uses third-party analytical cookies over which the Owner has no direct control. The forwarding of these cookies is permitted only with the prior consent of the user. For more details, please refer to the following sections, "Cookies present on the Site", "Granting of consent" and "How to manage cookies".
